For the kids, the best part of Christmas is opening up presents. For us, it’s getting to really flex our muscles in the kitchen! As we hit the final weeks before the big day, check out just a few of the recipes we’re looking forward to bring to our table this holiday season.
As much as we love Thanksgiving, we love cooking on Christmas even more. With both Christmas Eve and Christmas to prepare for, it gives us even more opportunities to try out new dishes and impress! We do the cooking, the kids clean-up, and the leftovers get us to New Year’s Day...usually.
No matter what your taste, we’ve probably found something you’re into. Check out four great recipes that might warrant making an appearance on your holiday menu!
Christmas Ham Puff Pastry - Nothing celebrates the season like ham, but doesn’t everyone eat it this time of year? Give your spiral a twist; wrap it in puff pastry! At first, this seems tough, but after reading the instructions, it’s doable. This one we haven’t tried yet, but we did spot one tip they left out. When you trim the excess puff pastry, toss it on a baking sheet with a little cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top; it’s a pastry treat bonus!
Yorkshire Pudding - Here’s your game plan. For Christmas Eve, serve steak. Then, make this. A big bite of Yorkshire pudding will conjure up visions of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, plus it’s exceedingly easy to make, calling for just four ingredients! You don’t even need the drippings to make this tasty; offer it as a side all by itself.
Homemade Cannoli - Just in case the kids eat all the Christmas cookies before Santa shows up, make cannoli! As a dish to pass or as something to snack on while the kids do their damage under the tree on Christmas morning, having the skills to make this in your chef’s apron always feels good. Pair it as an after-dinner comrade with coffee, or down a few the morning after; there’s no bad time for a cannoli.
Maple Mashed Sweet Potatoes - The holidays are prime time for adding sweetness to any meal, and when it comes to maple, you can’t ever get enough. Put a sweet twist on your potato side with mashed sweet potatoes, made even more delicious with a healthy dose of maple syrup. Don’t forget to add just a bit of orange zest to bring out even more flavor!
