It’s easy to tell our community that Max’s was founded in 1945. But that year, all by itself, doesn’t provide enough context to all the changes to the business and to this incredible area in which we live. Below, we put together some numbers and facts to show just how much has changed at Max’s since our beginnings.
I’d wager not many of you were around when Max’s first got its start. But, my oh my, have things changed over the last 75+ years!
77: The number of years Max’s Service has been in business since it was purchased in 1945 by Max Crandell.
11: The number of Presidents who have served in office while Max’s has been in business.
25,000: (Roughly) the number of residents in Grand Traverse County in 1945. It’s now a whopping 95,238 according to the 2020 census.
20 million: Between 1945 and 1949, Americans purchased 20 million refrigerators. In 2022, Americans will buy over 12 million washing machines in a single year.
3: The number of generations Max’s has been within a single family tree.
#1: The number song of 1945 was Sentimental Journey, by Les Brown and Doris Day. In 2021, the top was Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran. In 1945, you had to listen to the radio or buy a record to hear the best song of the year. Now, you can stream any song in the world, instantly from your smartphone.
