States You Should Visit (Based on Food)

Don’t get us wrong, we love Traverse City. The summers are incredible, fall is simply gorgeous, and spring is magical. Winter, of course, is also an incredible time to be in TC.. until late February or March. It’s this time of year that many Northern Michigan residents head for warmer, and potentially delicious, locales.

If you’re planning a spring break vacation in the contiguous United States, don’t just weigh your options based on the predicted temperatures. We’ve looked through the signature dishes of each U.S. state to give you some ideas on where to travel to this spring based on temps and taste!

Maryland: Crab Cakes

Hear me out! Maryland isn’t a traditional vacation destination for Spring Breakers, but there’s so much to see and do! Washington D.C. has so many historic landmarks, museums, and the food is pretty incredible to boot. Maryland is known for its crab cakes, which sound absolutely exotic after a long winter in TC. Crab cakes? History? Beaches? Maryland isn’t a bad option for a getaway!

Alabama: Pecan Pie

From December to May, Gulf Shores, AL is home to the largest demographic of transitory birds in the world. The species? Snow Birds, of course! The coast of Alabama is known more for being the winter home of our grandparents, all-you-can-eat fish, and shrimp buffets, and has some stunning beaches.

Alabama is also a top choice for those with a sweet tooth, as well. By all accounts, Alabama has the best pecan pie in the world. Alabamians kindly ask those saying, “But, Georgia!” to sit back down and have a bit of their pecan pie. They’re confident that’ll settle the debate once and for all.

Arizona: Sonoran Hot Dog

Life in the desert is absolutely beautiful. Sunrises and sunsets over the stunning rock formations are something everyone should see. March is springtime in Arizona, and watching the desert come alive with color and life is truly a special experience.

Take all of those adjectives and prase about the desert and swap in “Sonoran Hot Dog” and you have another reason to visit Arizona. The Sonoran Hot Dog is wrapped in bacon, topped with pinto beans, grilled onions, jalapenos, mustard, and mayonnaise.

Sunshine and bacon-wrapped hot dogs? Sign. Me. Up.

You can do some more vacation destination exploring on Far & Wide’s website. It’s a pretty delicious way to plan a vacation, and I hope you pick a location that’s as beautiful as it is tasty!
